The Journey of Writing Twenty Something: Navigating Your 20s
When I first sat down to write Twenty Something: Navigating Your 20s, I didn’t fully grasp how much of a journey it would be—not just putting the book together but reliving and reflecting on everything that shaped me throughout my twenties. Writing this book wasn’t just about compiling lessons together, it was about growth, self-awareness, and understanding the beauty in all the highs and lows of this decade. Over the course of a year, this book evolved alongside me, capturing experiences in real-time as I navigate the final stretch of my twenties.
The Inspiration Behind the Book
My twenties were filled with change, relocation, uncertainty, blessings, faith, and pivotal moments that shaped who I am today. At times, I felt lost, unsure if I was making the right decisions. Other times, I experienced breakthroughs and moments of clarity that reassured me I was on the right path. I knew I wasn’t alone in feeling this way, and I wanted to create something that could serve as a guide and friend for anyone navigating their own journey.
The Writing Process
I initially thought this book would be a simple collection of reflections, but as I continued writing, it became more personal. I found myself diving deep into the lessons I had learned, revisiting moments of struggle and triumph. Some chapters flowed effortlessly, while others required me to sit with a plethora of emotions. Writing this book forced me to be honest—with myself and my readers. It wasn’t about sugarcoating experiences or making it seem like I had it all figured out. It was about embracing the uncertainty, the mistakes, and the growth that comes from navigating this decade.
The Challenges & Breakthroughs
One of the biggest challenges I faced was balancing vulnerability with wisdom. I wanted to be transparent about my journey while also offering guidance that others could take with them. It wasn’t just about telling my story, it was about making it meaningful for those reading it. Another challenge was simply trusting myself as a writer. There were moments I questioned if this book was “good enough” or if my experiences were worth sharing. However, every time doubt crept in, I reminded myself why I started: to help others feel seen, understood and encouraged.
What I Hope Readers Take Away
More than anything, I hope Twenty Something serves as a companion for those navigating their own journey. I hope it reassures readers that they’re not alone in their struggles and that growth is a continuous process. Though this book focuses on lessons from my twenties, these lessons don’t expire the moment we turn 30. They stay with us, evolving as we do. That is why this book isn’t just for people in their twenties—it’s for anyone who is growing, reflecting and embracing their journey at any stage in of life.
