What Is Love?

What is Love?

While reading All About Love by bell hooks, I came across a sentence that changed my life forever---“Love and Abuse cannot coexist”. I know you are probably thinking “Okay yeah duh Asiha” but to truly examine my own relationships; I had to come to terms and be honest and say that I had never experienced love before. All the relationships I had found myself in involved some kind of abuse, whether it be physical, emotional, or verbal. It wasn’t until about age 25/26 that I finally made the decision to cut ties with any and everything that involved abuse. I had made a promise to myself and went through a lot of unlearning and learning over and over again. I decided that I do in fact have control over who and what I allow in my life. I unexpectedly met my partner, of course I was nervous and very hesitant at first. Over time I began to write letters to him, in my journal—some were poems, and some were actual letters. I never gave them to him because I had an idea..lol. Those poems and letters turned into my most recent projects----521: Love Letters to You and 521: A Journal of Love. I have a blog on 521: Love Letters to You. However, after completing 521: Love Letters to You. I felt like something was still missing—my goal was to inspire and help others; help others to identify healthy relationships, help others to recognize and truly understand what love is. So much of what I see today is toxicity being equated and accepted as love. When in reality, love is truly not hard. So, I decided to add a journal to the actual poetry book to help others understand that and reflect on what love means to them.

What Makes This Journal Unique?

This journal is divided into four sections created to encourage self-discovery and connection.

You’ll find:

  • Guided Prompts to help you reflect on your relationship with love, deepen your connections to others and self.

  • Affirmations to inspire gratitude, faith and mindfulness.

  • Creative Spaces where you can draw, write, or express yourself freely.

  • Reflection Pages for capturing your thoughts on love

The journal design I created was inspired by the poetry book—with bold yellows, timeless black, passionate reds and white tones, offering an aesthetic that is clean, organized and easy to work through.

Make it your own---whether you fill it with poetry, letters, drawings or thoughts; this journal is here to reflect your journey.

When I created 521: A Journal of Love, my goal was to offer something that could meet you where you are and walk alongside you on your path. Love is not just a feeling; it’s an action, a choice, and a gift. My prayer is that this journal helps you cherish that gift, find deeper clarity in your relationships, find deeper clarity within yourself, believe that you are worthy, and feel encouraged to love boldly and authentically.
